The RBI complaint portal keeps rejecting my text. How should I write the complaint?

When I paste my complaint into the RBI CMS portal, it shows errors or won't submit. What format works, and how long should it be?

Two things cause most problems: formatting and length.

  • Strip special characters. The portal's text boxes reject many symbols (curly quotes, ₹ signs, bullets, some slashes and ampersands). Write in plain text: use "Rs" instead of ₹ and straight quotes, and avoid emoji and decorative bullets. If it errors, remove characters until it submits.
  • Keep the facts short and chronological. The officer reading it has many cases. A few lines per event works: date, what you asked, what the bank said, what's still wrong.
  • Put the detail in the attachment. Upload one PDF with a short statement of facts, a timeline table, the full email chain and screenshots, each labelled (Annexure A, B, C...). The text box only needs to point to it.
  • State the relief clearly: what you want the bank directed to do, plus compensation if you're claiming it, with an amount.
  • Quote reference numbers: the bank's complaint numbers and dates, so the officer can match them to the bank's reply.

Later, when the Ombudsman forwards the bank's reply and asks for your comments, reply point by point, keep the subject line unchanged, and attach evidence. Large attachments can bounce, so upload big files such as recordings somewhere and include the link.
