Income tax notification

Hi Pankaj,

I have got a notification from CPC saying that my tax payable for AY 2009-2010 is 5885 is still pending. The tax calculation provided by them shows that the investment I had declared then has not been taken into account whereas the form 16 provided by my employer shows that the investment declared by me is taken into account and hence as per form 16 my tax liability is NIL. Kindly suggest how should I proceed with this issue?

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks, Tushar

Also for the current year (I have moved to a new employer) after consolidating my total income from past employer and the new employer my tax payable pending shows as 17000. Please can you let me know how to pay this and then file my return? Or can this be done simultaneously?

Thanks, Tushar

For AY 2009-10 case, you would need to submit written letter to IT office for clearing the demand along with copy of IT return and form-16. They would accept that and would clear demand in 1-2 months.

Regarding how to pay tax and file return, I would suggest this article: File Income Tax Return Online

Hi Pankaj,

Thanks so much for your response. One more query about the letter to IT.

Where do I submit the letter. Do I have to physically go to IT Office and submit it or has to be posted at CPC, Electronic City postal address.

Thanks Tushar

It has to go to your assessment officer. Check your income tax ward/circle from here: https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/e-Filing/Services/KnowYourJurisdiction.html

It would be best if you can go there and handover written letter to assessing officer. If they are in good mood, you can sit with them and correct record there itself.
