Mr.Batra,

I have just had the opportunity to see your educative site !! And I like it !!

Que:I had taxable income upto the FY 2009-10 and I e filed my return. Thereafter, I retired and did not have taxable income in the FY 2010-11 and FY 2011-12. Was it compulsory to file my IT Return for AY 2011-12 and 2012-13?. Was it desirable to have filed the returns? Have I defaulted any section? Thanks in advance for your clarification?

In case your income (before any deductions like 80C, 80D etc) was below taxable slab (1.9 lakh for AY 2011-12 and 2012-13) then income tax return filing was not mandatory.
