ECNR Stamp in Passport

Dear Pankaj,

Hope this mail reaches to you in the best of health and happiness.

I have got two (2) queries.

First, my wife does not have any Emigration Status (ECR/ECNR) stamp in her passport. She was issued from Bhubaneswar a new passport on 19/07/2011. She is 23 years old and has completed her BA. She would like to come in Dubai (U.A.E.). Would there be any problem while coming to Dubai from any Indian Airport? If an ECNR Stamp is mandatory, where can it be stamped and what are the documents required for the same. Also how many days would it take to get the stamping done?

Second, her passport was issued few days prior to marriage and hence there is no spouse name mentioned in her passport. But we are having our original attested Marriage Certificate. Will that be sufficient for traveling outside India or the spouse name needs to be mentioned in her passport? If spouse name needs to be entered in passport, where can it be done and what are the documents required for the same. Also how many days would it take to get the spouse name included in the passport?

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Thank you very much and best regards.

Jai.

As your wife's passport does not have ECR or ECNR stamp, it means its default ECNR and no further stamping is required on it. She may freely go to any country without emigration clearance.

Not having spouse name in passport should not be an issue as you have marriage certificate and a valid visa to travel.
if you want to get spouse name added to wife's passport, she will have to apply in local passport office and a new passport will be issued. It may take even a month to do so. Documents required for this will be address proof and marriage certificate.

Thank you very much Mr. Pankaj for your quick response.
