ECNR Status

Hi Pankaj,

Thanks for your effort for helping people in doubts about ECNR status. I also have an query..

My passport was issue on 2012 and it is valid upto 10 years, now at the second last page its mentioned as Emigration Check Required, my questions are.

  1. I have to travel to Philippines next month and it will be for business and multiple entry, the Visa will be processed by my company, do I need a POE clearance in this case, or it can easily be processed without a POE clearance?

  2. I want a re-issue of my Passport with ECR waived off, I have asked few other people but as they mentioned the IT return or PAN card is not enough to establish I am ECNR eligible, I have lost my 10th & 12th Markesheets but have Gradutaion and Post Graduation mark sheets and certificates, will that do to get a re-issued passport with no ECR mentioned.

Will be looking forward to your kind reply.

Thanks & regards, Abhrojit

First, leaving India for Philippines on any kind of visa does not require emigration check or ECNR status on passport. So you won't need to visit PoE or passport office for re-issue. You can get passport reissued with ECNR status by submitting any of the eligibility document mentioned on this page: http://www.passportindia.gov.in/AppOnlineProject/onlineHtml/NonEcrDocuments.html

In case you file income tax return, Proof of assessment of income tax and actual payment of income tax for last one year would be enough for ECNR.

Also, in case you have a professional degree (like engineering, medicine), degree copy would also be eligible.
