Investment Declaration

Does a pensioner with less than the exempted limit (INR 2.25 p.a) of pension per month need to file an investment declaration form?

Kindly guide when and by whom is this investment declaration form filed?

If your income before any deductions (like 80C, 80D etc) is more than exemption limit (2 lakh for person below 60 years, 2.5 lakh for above 60 years and 5 lakh above 80 years age), then you would need to file income tax returns.

Similarly investment declaration would be needed in such case. Investment declaration needs to be submitted to employer who pays salary (pension in your case)

Thank you Pankaj. Is it only about the income from pension? Or including income from investment as well. In that case my total yearly income is not exceeding 2.5 lakh including investment. Also I have submitted 15G to my bank as well. Do I still need to file investment declaration form???

Yes it should include all other incomes as well (FD interest etc). No need to submit declaration in that case.

Perfect...Thank you for your assistance.. It was much helpful.... A last query.. I have received a sms from my pension branch saying to file a IDF. Now that you have cleared my doubts. So can I ignore the sms or should I write to them saying I do not follow under this bracket to file an IDF?

If they have your PAN details, know your age and payment from their end is less than 2.5 lakhs, they should not deduct any taxes on payment even without declaration form submission. But having said that, you never know the government departments. It would be safe to submit declaration form mentioning 1 lakh 80C deduction investments, 15000 80D investments etc. There is no binding to follow declaration at the end of year.

Many thanks Pankaj. Do you know where can I get the IDF for 2013-2014? Either PDF or Excel both will help. Thank you
