ECNR OR TEMPORARY EMIGRATION SUSPENSION

Dear Sir, My passport was issued on 2005 when my age was 5 months short of 18 years. So i got my passport ECNR endorsed upto 19/9/2011. I presumed that I am ECNR holder. It is now only after going through your pages that I learnt that I need ECNR stamping.

In a day or two I am getting my visa for dubai(work visa).I am a female. As per my understanding I can go to passport Office for Reissue of Passport or go to POA for temporary suspension. my questions are: 1. Which option should I adopt? In case of Reissue of passport, pp number will be different from the number shown on visa. Will it create problem? In tatkal shall I have to complete police formalities again? 2. How many days Temporary suspension will take? 3. Producing HSC certificate will be enough for me, or visa and agreement and ticket will be required in both option? 4. Visa, Agreement and ticket need to be attested by Indian Embassy or not? I hope I have explained my problem clearly. Please advise Regards

  1. You should go for passport reissue as that's a permanent solution. In case you get temporary suspension or emigration clearance, you may have to again get in next visit to India or in case of change in employer. New passport number would not be an issue. It will have old passport number mentioned in it and you would need to carry both passports always. Visas on old passport would remain valid till their validity. Tatkal may also need police verification as last passport was issued long back.
  2. Temporary suspension should not take more than 2-3 days.
  3. In case of temporary suspension or emigration clearance from PoE, you would need employment visa, employer offer letter/contract and flight ticket details. In case of passport reissue HSC certificate would be enough.
  4. I am not sure if documents needs to attested by embassy in case of skilled worker. But affidavit from candidate declaring genuineness of documents may be asked.

Dear Pankaj I appreciate your prompt reply. Now the practical part of it. I am told by the persons who help in getting passports that when a single female travels to dubai specifically, she may be refused even after holding all the documents and that is why embassy attestation is essential. What is your take on this. Once again thanks for being prompte and accurat in reply.Regards

Yes, you are correct. PoE website says: Approval of the Ministry is required, if candidates is a female aged 30 years or less and being deployed as housemaid. There should not be any issue in case of skilled worker, but why take a risk.

fantastic dear pankaj I wonder why passport offices do not appoint officers like you to help people and save them from unnecessary hassels, and if they really want to put an end to the Agents and their practices. Thanks a lot and regards.
