Professional Tax

Sir, One employee joined us on mid of Nov. Her previous company had deducted an amt of 1700/- in total as professional tax from April-Nov. We normally deduct PT from our employees twice in an yr and make half yearly payment. So, while calculating for the second half yearly return (Oct-Mar) in our company, the total salary for this employee from Nov mid - Mar, she falls under Rs.1250/- slab and I deducted that much amt from her salary. So now her total PT contribution comes to 2950/-. Was my calculation wrong? Should I have adjusted that 1700/- with the total PT for an year -2500/- and deducted only 800/-? Thanks.

Professional tax rules varies from state to state. Some state have monthly tax rule and some have half/full yearly rule.

Please consult local state rules or tax consultant for your case.
