Re-application of ITR-4

Dear Pankaj, My wife works as freelancer for different organizations, and we filled the ITR-4 for AY-2011-12. Recently, I checked the e-filing processing status, it says, "e-Return has been processed at CPC - nil demand/refund". Does it mean, there will be no refund? Please consider the actual scenario: total income was 2.2 lakhs and TDS deducted was 23,154/-. So, there must be some refund. The ITR-V was showing refund amount. Now, I have doubt on my e-filing skills, may be I did something wrong while filing ITR-4. Please let me know, at this stage can I re-apply for refund? Or, can you help me with this or provide some contacts who can help me? I will have no issues with your consultancy fees.

Your feedback is very necessary, because now I have lost confidence on myself while e-filing Thanks Arun

Statement "e-Return has been processed at CPC - nil demand/refund" means that there is no refund computed by income tax.

Check CPC Refund Failure Status page on efiling website. It may have reason in short for not generation of refund.

To get more details on why they have not done it, you need to get hold of assessment order. After processing of online return, income tax department sends out intimation u/s 143(1) to assessee's address and/or email. This intimation has income tax department's computation.

In case you filed IT return only before 31st July, 2011, income tax assessment would have been done by Nov-Dev 2011 (in my case it as done in Nov, 2011). Efiling processing status page would have date of processing. Check your emails if you received same on email id mentioned in ITR.

In case you have not received it or unable to get it, you may try requesting it again on this online link: Request for re-sending of income tax department intimations. This link would work only after you are logged in.

You may also call income tax department call center (if they are able to help and send it on email on call). Their numbers are: 1961, 1800-180-1961, 080-26982000, 1800-425-2229

I hope it helps!

Thanks for replying so promptly. Yes, I have received intimation u/s 143(1). It says, total tax credited: 23,153 (As provided by Tax- payer) and 0 (As computed u/s 143 (1); Refund amount: 23,153 (as provided by tax-payer) and 0 (as computed u/s 143 (1). Tax Payable: 0 and 0; Net amount refundable, 0, and net amount payable, 0. Please help me. Let me know, if you need the computation sheet (u/s 143 or ITR-V). Let me know your email Id, I will send as attachement or scanned document. Thanks once again. Arun

Also, I just checked the refund failure status. It says, "There is no refund failure. However, it may also be that e-Return has not been processed so far OR No refund was due OR Refund has been delivered successfully." I don't know what to do? Please help

See it has tax refund computed by IT department as 0. Reason for this is non-deposit/updation of TDS in IT records. Can you please check form 26AS for same year. Does it have TDS entries? Do you also have form-16A issued by deductor? It would have been good if you would have seen this intimation when it came and took action. As already assessment year 2011-12 has ended, it may be difficult now to re-open case.

See as per IT records, there is no refund failure. As per their records, they have not received taxes (as TDS). So they have not issued refund. Your return has been processed as you got intimation u/s 143(1).

If you read intimation in details, there is a line mentioned in the end. If you are not satisfied with the intimation under section 143(1) , you may seek rectification under section 154 by filing an application electronically for rectification to CPC, for which the details are available on website Check same on:

Yes, I have Form 16-A by deductor, and also the 26AS tax credit has all entries. I hope the link you have provided for rectification can help me. Thank you so much Arun
