Regarding the conveyance reimbursement without bills

Dear Pankaj,

I live in NCR(ghaziabad) and travel daily from home to office and back. I use metro train for commuting and also use "Rickshaw" to reach to Metro station from home(in the morning) and from office(in the evening). My company provides CAB service but CAB has restriction that it can not enter into UP border so i am bound to use my own conveyance method.

Now question is that i want to take all the expenses that i incur on this traveling as an allowance or reimbursement from my company but the company ask for bills. The problem is i use metro pass for traveling so i don't have bills, the rickshaw waala also can not provide me the bills.

So i want to know how can i claim this amount from company as taxable or non taxable?

If i give a self attested note stating that "i use this much amount for traveling and i will be solely responsible for any income tax related matter", will it work? The amount that I am talking about is around Rs. 2000 PM.

Please suggest.

Regards Gaurav

As per Govt rules, such conveyance allowance is only non-taxable up-to Rs 800 per month, without need of producing bills.

Dear Pankaj, Thanks alot for the reply. I know this fact that 800 is only non taxable. Actually what I want to know as per my previous mail that ..Can a self attested letter/certificate stating that "i use this much amount(more than 800) for traveling and i will be solely responsible for any income tax related matter", will work? My company says they need bills to show them to the Audit people's. Without bills they can not proof who this amount they are giving to. So CAN i give them a self attested letter instead of bills? Best Regards Gaurav

There is no such rule to accept self attested letter in-spite of proofs. Later if income tax department calls for scrutiny, then also you won't be able to prove expenses. For the same reason, conveyance allowance has been fixed as Rs 800 per month without need to bills.
