TAX refund

This was regarding my In laws IT return. They have filed the IT return On line, as for Assessment year 2009-10 we havent got the refund from department.

As per the IT return filed and 26AS the refund is Rs 62K.

Had enquired with the local IT department with the concern IT office of the ward/circle. They have checked the data, as per the records with the IT dept. there is difference in the claim and the return filed. TDS mismatch. The official asked us to go to local NSDL office and tell them, show them and ask them to upload the records.

We did go to local NSDL office, they saw the deatils and said that when entire TDS is been getting reflected in 26 AS, then whats left for upload. The department need to check why the same is not getting through, and the data is missing somewhere.

Meanwhile the local NSDL has asked us to write a mail and attach the scanned copy of 26 AS to information desk to NSDL and get clarification.

What do you suggest on the same, whats the right procedure we need to follow to get the refund.

Looks like there is not much at NSDL side pending as form 26AS is showing correct TDS amount.

I would request you to write a formal letter to income tax assessing office describing the whole issue. Also attach income tax return copy and form 26AS copy. Get a receipt for complaint from officers there.

They would have to take action on written complaint.

If they don't take action, you should file a RTI to know status of refund.
