can we avail tax exemption u/s 80u and 80dd 'simultaneously' ?

my father is a government official. he is more than 40% disabled and my brother is 90% disabled can my father avail tax exemption u/s 80u and 80dd 'simultaneously' ? total tax exemption is 50,000 + 1,00,000 = 1,50,000.

It should be allowed as two have different purpose.

80DD is for expenses in medical treatment of disabled dependents, whereas 80U is available in case assessee himself is disabled.
