Tax exemption under 80G

Hi Pankaj,

I understand that if we make donation to certain institutions or NGOs then under section 80G there is tax exemption of 50-100% of the donated amount. Can you please tell how can we find authenticity of that institution and the receipt given by them. Is there any source from where we can get information of all the such institutions which have been registered under 80G.

Institution must provide a receipt/certificate which has their Trust Reg No, PAN number and 80G registration number mentioned.

80G Registration number would look like: DIT(E)/MC/80G/XXX/2010-11 dated XX.XX.20XX effective YY.YY.20YY

You may even ask a copy of 80G approval letter from NGO. It would look like as on this document: http://www.yousee.in/images/UCDS_approval_under_section_80G.pdf
