Tax exemption on buying an i-phone in India

Dear Mr. Pankaj Batra,

I have purchased an i-phone with original bill from Aircell in India. I have heard from a colleague of mine that the Indian govt. is allowing a tax exemption on the total purchase/ bill amount if an i-phone is bought by an Indian in India. Is it true? if yes kindly provide me official link to this exemption and under which section would it fall?

There is no such rule and it can never be.

Seems like its a rumor. Why any government would give tax benefit on purchase of a luxury electronics product.
