LTA Exemption

HI Pankaj, Have gone through your answers for LTA. I have a question in this regard. Myself & my wife have plaaned to Jammu. As I had some work in Jammu, I have gone early and she joined me after 4 days. We both of us travelled by flight. While return, we both of us came together. So Can I claim the flight charges under LTA for both of us. Or is it mandatory that both of us need to travel together for to and fro journey.I have following questions in thsi regard. 1. Can I claim the flight charges for both to & fro journey for both of us or only part of it will be allowed..? 2. As I misplaced the boarding pass for my wife, can I still claim it. ( I have seen in one of your reply that we can request the airline to reissue the boarding pass. It was in kingfisher flight, so Can i get the boarding pass again.)

Thanks in advance for your reply and waiting to hear from you. Sanjay

For claiming LTA exemption, tax payee and dependent must travel together on same trip.

  1. You can claim only for yourself while going. But on return journey you may be able to claim for both of you, as travel was done together.
  2. It will be difficult to prove travel without the boarding pass, in case income tax department ask for it at a later date. It will be better to request for duplicate boarding pass, to your flight company. They may issue a letter justifying the travel done.
