need advice on SIP investments

I'm 31 and would want to start investing in SIP immd as i have consumed a major portion of my savings in the property purchase which i done recently.

I have done some basic research and have decided to invest in the below funds(growth) on a monthly basis on a long term:

1.HDFC Top 200 - Equity : 4000 2.HDFC Equity - Equity : 4000 3.DSPBR Top 100 Equity Inst : Equity Large Cap - 4000 OR Franklin India Bluechip : Equity Large Cap 4.IDFC Premier Equity Fund: Mid and Small Cap - 3000

Please advice if im making the right choices and how long i should only focus on equities alone.

Thanks, Prashant Nair

All these funds are good and one of the best in their categories. You can continue with these.

As age is on your side, you may invest around 80% of your investments in equities as of now. As age progresses, you may start reducing equity portion by 2% per year and increasing same in debt and retirement plans.

For debt investment, you can pick Fixed deposits, infrastructure bonds, FMP mutual funds and fixed deposits.

But before doing this, keep a good amount in liquid assets (Liquid mutual funds, short term debt plans, savings bank account) for some emergency situation.

You should also not ignore term insurance, medical insurance, critical insurance cover and home insurance here.

Thanks for the advice... I already have a term cover from KOtak for 60 lacs for 30 yrs and a medical insurance through my office. Do i need to take a separate insurance for home.. I was thinking it will be covered as part of the term policy..

You should get a family floater medical insurance yourself too. Employer provided insurance lapse the day you leave them, so its better to have one of your own too. Term insurance does not cover medical treatments.
