Hello, Can we submit the proof of interest paid as part of education loan while filing returns? I didn't submit my education loan repayment proof to my employer and hence my form 16 doesn't show it under 80E. Can you suggest how can I submit the proof now while filing the ITR-1 and can get the refund of income tax deducted? Thanks, Shailza asked Jul 28 '11 at 23:37 by PRIYA123 1●1●1●1 |
You can declare whole interest amount paid towards education loan in income tax return form under 80-E section. No proof/document needs to be submitted along with ITR for this. You will get refund in 3-4 months if you file income tax return by 31st July. answered Jul 29 '11 at 18:45 by Pankaj Batra 5.2k●3●20 Thanks Pankaj for the reply.
I have one more doubt. The ITRV pdf form which I received after uploading the xml file on the site, shows the Gross income and Deductions under Chapter VI-A as zero. Is it possible that I filed it incorrectly and if it so how to correct it and refile it.
Your help will be really appreciable.

Seems like you filled something incorrectly as deductions under VI-A should show tax saving deductions under 80-C, 80-D, 80-E etc.
If there is come changes needs to be made in existing filed income tax return, you should file a revised return.
Process for income tax return filing is same as original one, with some small changes.
1. Return type = Revised in spite of original.
2. Section under which return is filed: 139(5)
3. Provide original date of filing and E-ack number in ITR.
Send both original and revised ITR-V to IT department.
