As per Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) circular no. 05/2011, dated 16-8-2011,

If annual rent paid by the employee exceeds Rs 1,80,000 per annum, it is mandatory for the employee to report PAN of the landlord to the employer. In case the landlord does not have a PAN, a declaration to this effect from the landlord along with the name and address of the landlord should be filed by the employee.

It was in reference to minimum exemption tax slabs for that year.

This year slab has been increased to 2 lakh, so this limit for reporting PAN has also been raised to 2 lakh in CIRCULAR NO. 8/2012 [F.NO. 275/192/2012-IT(B)], DATED 5-10-2012. Now it says:

if annual rent paid by the employee exceeds Rs. 2,00,000 per annum, it is mandatory for the employee to report PAN of the landlord to the employer. In case the landlord does not have a PAN, a declaration to this effect from the landlord along with the name and address of the landlord should be filed by the employee.

Hi Sir,

I am Andrew, a working professional based in Gurgaon. I'm planning for a family after three years. May I know what is the minimum amount required to be living in gurgaon. My monthly income is Rs.22k.

Regards, Andrew

Andrew,

Its hard to tell what's the minimum expense for living in Gurgaon with family. It all depends on your lifestyle, but yes, if you have your own home, 20K per month should be minimum with a kid (not going to school).
