previous employer salary not taxable exemption limit used by current employer

Hi Pankaj,

From my previous employment from Apr-Aug11 my Total Income was 75,540/- and from the current employer Sep11-Mar12 is 2,19,830/-. My previous employer did not deducted any tax as it had not crossed the exemption limit and my current employer after deducting the exemption limit of 1,90,000/- deducted tax and issued Form.-16. But while filing the online return it calculates tax on(75540+219830=295370)and doesnot matched with the Form-16 as only 3073/- on 219830 is being deducted. Please suggest.. Thanks Jyoti

Income tax would be computed on total year's taxable income. If you have not reported your income with previous employer to current employer, they would only deduct taxes on their payments. Hence there would be some pending tax payable if you compute taxes by adding income from both employers.

First you need to pay remaining tax as computed by income tax return form and then file income tax return.
