Income tax on rental income

Hi ,

We professionals pay income tax. Govt would not let anybody go without it. How about those guys who earn lakhs in a month as rental income. I am from Bangalore. Rent is sky rocketing here in all parts of Bangalore. Recently apartment owner asked 5k each from tenants to dig borewell. As per my understanding this is not at all fair. Can I make a complaint to authorities to make this the landlord pay the income tax. He is not even aware of anything like that. His income per month would be between 1-2 lakhs. Is there a way . please help.

You can lodge complaint with nearest income tax office for same. If not possible you may also reach officers in Central Board of Direct Taxes.

Unfortunately your landlord is not alone, majority of Indians who are not salaried (have shops, do small business) does not file income tax return or pay taxes. Just around 3% of Indians file income tax returns.
