CPC Banglore has sent Income Tax arrears demand note for AY 2004 2005 in 2012. How to resolve this. Assessee is no longer a tax payer and is retired from services. The amount involved is less than Rs.1000 . How to settle this demand

It would be better to pay this amount and send challan copy to assessing office as amount is small.
If this amount is not paid, they will automatically settle it against any future income tax refund.
If you think the demand is un-necessary, then you can write to assessing officer with valid proofs of payments in 2004-05.
