Filed a flawed return - Received Arrear Demand notice - Any suggestions?

Hi, I received an arrear demand notice from the IT department asking me to pay up some arrears for AY2008-09. Now looking at the IT filing records that I have, I realize that I've made the following blunder:
I had 2 form 16's for the said assessment year as I had switched companies during that year. In the form 16 of the second employer that I had worked with during that year, I have not added the first form 16's salary as "Income from previous employer". But for the salary that I drew from both the employers tax has been deducted at source.
However while filing the returns for that year, in the ITR1 form that I filled out, I had manually added "salary", deductions etc from both the form 16's (taking care that I do not cross the 80 C limit of 1L put together) and had filed my returns and got an IRTV acknowledgment according to which I have to receive a return of around 10K.

Now the demand letter that I have received says I've to contact the AO who has raised the demand and that happens to be in Chennai from where I moved out long back. Any idea how I can get this resolved?

Regards, M

You should write to your assessing office explaining everything in details and along-with proofs for your income and tax deduction. Keep a copy of all these details and send this letter as registered post to income tax office.

If there is no response, I would request you to complaint for same to Income Tax Ombudsman
