Dear pankaj, I am working in a reputed concern, In my salary bill it is shown that House rent allowance as Rs 2100. but i acutally paying 5500 Rs per month as house rent to my house owner. He is also ready to pay rent receipt. My doubt is " Can i show Rs 5500 fully for house rent allowance are i should show only Rs 2100 ? Kindly reply.

Maximum amount for HRA exemption can be the HRA amount which is paid by employer as part of your salary.
Even if you show rent receipt of 5500, you will get income tax exemption for maximum 2100. In case you want to increase this, please ask your employer to increase your HRA portion in salary.
