LTA Claim Query

Hello all, Request you to please guide me in this issue.

I want to know if i can claim LTA for travel taken in March 2012. I am planning to travel in March 2012, and hence want to know if i can claim this LTA exemption in the next FInancial Year ? I understand, LTA's are block specific and hence it is in the same block of four years from 2010-2013. Hence i want to know if i can claim for LTA exemption in the next Financial year (2012-13) for travel taken in March 2012.

Request you to please guide me in the same. Thanking you all in advance.

As per IT rules, yes you should be able to claim travel done in March 2012 in same calender year.

But due to calender year and financial year clash, most of the employer follow financial year for LTA rather than govt specified calender year.

To be on safe side, I would suggest you to confirm same from your employer.

Many thanks for replying to my query. I would surely check this again with my employer. ALso could you please guide, whether it is possible for me to claim this while filing the IT return ?

LTA exemption should not be claimed while filing income tax return. There is no provision in ITR to mention same.

LTA is employer provided benefit so it should only be claimed with employer.
